Are you looking for an inexpensive way to give your interiors a fresh look? At Joshua Allen Design, we believe that interior design is for everyone! With the right design tricks, you can easily make a big improvement in any space without breaking the bank. So while we'd love to gut and renovate your space with you, we'd also love helping you improve the look and feel of your spaces without a big-figure budget!
Change Up Your Color Palette.
A fresh coat of paint is one of the most cost-effective ways to give your home a new look. Although we do offer paint color consults specifically to help with this, you can absolutely choose a color palette yourself if you're careful! We recommend sticking to the 60/30/10 rule. That being said, don't be afraid to go bold in your color choices! For example; adding an accent wall of deep ocean blue, or painting your kitchen cabinets using an elevated neutral tone like forest green.
Create a Focal Point.
A statement piece of furniture, artwork, or an accent of wallpaper can be an easy way to draw attention to one spot in a space, making a room feel intentionally put together. Consider adding a dramatic accent chair, a unique piece of antique furniture (thrifted to save $) or a large painting to create an eye-catching focal point.
Switch Up Your Window Treatments.
Window treatments are a great way to add texture and interest to a room. Updating or removing current curtains in favor of something different can have an extremely dramatic improvement on a space. Trust us, sheer curtains were one of our ultimate secret weapons for staging homes to sell! Choose any curtains, shades, or blinds you like in a new color or texture to instantly refresh the space.
Add a New Rug.
A rug is a great way to add warmth and texture to any room. They can be expensive, but you can also find them for relatively cheap and sometimes on sale at local home decor stores. If you're willing to splurge a bit, we highly recommend a washable rug because, well, they're washable. Tons of companies out there make some gorgeous washable options too. Layering a textured rug (like jute) with a patterned one adds extra coziness and a sense of home. Choose a colorful or patterned rug if you want to make a bold statement.
Replace Your Hardware & Light Fixtures.
Updating the hardware and lighting in your kitchen, bathroom, or other rooms is a simple and inexpensive way to give your space an instant facelift. If you have dated looking hardware in your home, consider replacing it all (cabinet and drawer pulls, door knobs, and lighting fixtures too!) with matte black or brushed bronze for a fresh modern look.
These are just a few of the many inexpensive updates that can make a big impact in your home. With a little creativity, patience, and these interior design tips, you can make a big impact without breaking the bank.
