Our Frequently Asked Questions
What is the role of an interior designer?
The overall role of an interior designer is multi-faceted but fundamentally commences with providing accurate design advice in order to create a safe, practical, functional, and aesthetically pleasing interior space. Interior designers are trained to assist clients through the process of building out an interior space while thinking both creatively and critically in order to maximize any and all elements of a particular space. An interior designer plays a key role in the built-out process of any interior by bringing a unique and creative perspective to any project. An experienced interior designer will assist with everything from color selection and furniture selection to space layout and the reimagining of a structural change. The responsibilities of an interior designer differ greatly from those of an architect, engineer, and contractor, though all four professionals play an extremely fundamental role when bringing your space to life.
You offer "sourcing" of materials and items. What is that exactly?
Design sourcing is the service we offer that eliminates the true stress of the design process - material and furnishing selection. The sourcing process we offer is thorough and creative. We take the time to find every item necessary for your space and use our expertise and creativity to ensure the selected items work well in your space, fit in your space, and aesthetically work well together. We also pay close attention to scale, form, space, texture, color, tone, functionality, and practicality. We source these materials and furnishings and upload them to your secure portal for an easy and self-paced purchasing experience.
Do I have to purchase from the vendors you source from?
You sure don't! We tell all of our clients to use our design suggestions as a guide to making the best decisions for them. Because we do not take commission from your purchases, where you purchase from has no impact on how we design or where we select to source from. Of course, the items and materials we recommend are selected for a reason, but that does not mean you cannot find that same or similar item elsewhere. Also, we encourage our clients to shop some of our recommendations with coupons or during a sale or discounts provided by the vendor.
Am I required to use your trade contacts?
Absolutely not. You can work with your
contractors, painters, plumbers, etc. and
we can communicate with them the same
as we would with our teams. We respect your relationships and your trusted trade professionals, so you can absolutely use whomever you are most comfortable working with.
How do you charge for your work?
We simply price your project based on an hourly rate - that's it! We have a strong understanding of how much time it takes to design any space. So, we estimate that time and multiply it by our hourly rate which translates to a set dollar amount for each space/project. It's as simple as that!
You only pay for our time, nothing more.

Who works on my project?
Believe it or not, our entire team! From our project manager to our business manger and designers, we all have a hand in your project to ensure a seamless design experience.
What if I am unhappy with some of the items selected for my design?
No stress whatsoever!
Luckily, we VERY rarely run into this obstacle and have (knock on wood) never had to fully redesign a project - ever. However, if what we source is not to your liking or style, we will find another option to better align with your vision; up to 5 items. And, this would be covered in your initial estimate, of course. If a design were to require a full redesign, we would work with you on a suitable fee for the redesign.
Do I get my own, project-specific client portal?
That's right! Every one of our clients is
granted access to a password-protected
webpage that works as a hub for your design. All of your floor plans, renders, videos, sourced items and project details are
securely uploaded to an easy-to-use webpage that you have access to for the life of your project. This page is yours to review your design, order your materials and items, share with others, and share with your trade
professionals to be sure the overall vision is
achieved.
Is JAD there through the entirety of the project?
Yes, we sure are! After we present your design to you, we can share your design information and portal with your contractor or our recommended contractor to be sure they are aware of all design decisions and plans. We will also assist with any questions that either you or your contractor may have at any point during the build-out phase. Additionally, we can even meet with the contractor on-site during construction to be sure things are progressing according to plan - and it is all included in your initial design quote! The only role not included in your design quote is the one of a GC. We do not offer GC services; scheduling, overseeing, management, or communication.
Is my project too large or small?
We work with our clients on projects of any
size and scale. From small closet designs, color consults, and room refreshes to large renovations and new builds, we help our clients achieve their design goals regardless of the size of the project.
How does the team learn my design style?
The first step in this process is getting to know you. We pick up on a lot about you, your design style, your likes and dislikes from our virtual or in-person consult - whether we are asking direct questions or not. Our experience and training have helped craft the art of learning someone's style fairly quickly. In addition to this, we send along a design questionnaire that we require all of our clients to submit before work begins. This in-depth, visual questionnaire builds a comprehensive design profile for us that we then use to build you the perfect design. And just like that, we understand your style! Seriously.
Can I provide a budget for my sourced items and materials?
Absolutely! Your project is fully yours to control. You can simply let us know what your budget is when you complete your design questionnaire and we will get to work designing within your terms. It is important however to be realistic about your budget for us to provide the best design possible for you. If you have any questions about what a budget might look like for your space, please reach out to one of our designers and we can assist you.
Do you have a list of recommended trade professionals?
We have a list on contacts that we can get you in touch with to bring your project to life. These teams are ones we have worked with in the past and are trusted by us and our past clients. Additionally, they are aware of the way in which we work and how we communicate, so it truly makes the entire process that much easier. Of course, we always recommend you obtain a few (2-3) quotes for your project from multiple professionals to be sure you have a true
understanding of what price is most fair based on the service offered.
One important note about our preferred list however, we are not associated with your businesses. We cannot control their schedules, fees, work, timelines, etc. Each of our contacts is trusted by us, though they are a separate business.
